2. Training

Focus point Racism

... confronting racist behaviour with action

The topic "rightwing extremism" usually draws great attention. Yet racism is often underestimated. At the same time racism is a widespread social phenomenon. One study 1 shows, for example, that 35.6% of the population consider Germany greatly overrun by foreigners. It is only through such attitudes that neo-Nazism can fall on fruitful soil.

During our seminar we examine this soil. What actually is racism? What is our own position and responsibility? We find answers to these questions with the help of the current whiteness discourse.

With this as our base, we look from different perspectives at situations and behaviour patterns from your everyday life by means of the forum theatre method developed by Augusto Boal. Our focus here is the condition of your civil courage, and ways in which changes can be made.

The goal of the training is to improve the way you perceive your own thoughts and actions, and to try out other ways of behaving. We appeal in particular to members of the social majority, to be able to perceive our position and responsibility in a racist society.

Length of the training session: 7-8 hours
